This summer, my first Texas winery visit was at Messina Hof Winery and Resort in Bryan Texas. It was a fun filled weekend of many activities throughout the day and delicious wine and food paring dinners in the evenings. I also got a closer look at the grapes grown which they use in making their wines.
Originally owned by Texas A & M University, this 100 acres property was bought by Paul and Merrill Bonarrigo in 1977. There story is a full and very happy one that installs family values and every corner, every vine and every wine. Today, Paul and Merrill passes the flame to their son Paul Mitchell and his wife Karen and the family traditions continues with the same strong spirit as ever before.
It was difficult getting a calm moment just to chat, but I finally got the chance to talk with Karen Bonarrigo and she gave me some examples of American Vitculture Areas (AVAs) in Texas where they either grow grapes themselves or buy from grape growers. Listen below:
